Steve O'Keefe

Steve is a highly experienced and self-motivated police leader specializing in strategic and tactical solutions within a high-risk, multi-agency environment. Currently serving as the Head of the Roads Policing Unit for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire, Steve is responsible for delivering casualty reduction strategies, pursuit management, and road incident responses. His role also includes overseeing road death investigations, ensuring that reports are handled with both precision and compassion.


With a career spanning over five years at Hertfordshire Constabulary, Steve has a proven track record in crisis management and risk mitigation. He is the National Police Chief's Council lead for micromobility transport solutions, advising on and negotiating future transport policies with the Department for Transport, Home Office, and government ministers. His leadership extends to managing firearms operations, traffic event management, and critical incident command, highlighting his expertise in high-pressure situations.


Steve is passionate about developing talent within his teams and supporting those affected by road death trauma and PTSD. He is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, actively promoting opportunities for individuals with visible and non-visible disabilities within the police force.


Throughout his career, Steve has excelled in strategic planning, budget management, and cross-border collaborations. He has led complex projects, such as the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, and played a key role in developing emergency service interoperability plans. His dedication to public safety, innovative thinking, and exceptional leadership skills make him a respected figure in law enforcement. As a leader committed to continuous improvement and community engagement, Steve O'Keefe continues to make significant contributions to policing and public safety.
