Anne Shaw

Anne is a leader in the transportation and infrastructure sectors, with over two decades of experience driving innovative solutions and improvements in urban transportation networks. Her career has been marked by significant leadership roles in governmental and advisory capacities, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing transportation systems and fostering sustainable development.
Anne began her career at Birmingham City Council, where she served from October 2010 to August 2017. Starting as Head of Access and Development, she managed highway network improvements and facilitated development projects. In this role, Anne oversaw the construction of new roads, managed public rights of way, and utilized GIS data for asset management, gaining recognition for her ability to streamline operations and improve urban transport systems.
Promoted to Head of Transportation Services in January 2014, Anne led projects focused on transport, digital, and sustainability initiatives. She enhanced transportation connectivity and accessibility across Birmingham, driving improvements that balanced development needs with environmental sustainability. Anne was appointed Assistant Director of Transportation and Connectivity in March 2016, shaping the city's transport policies and infrastructure development strategies.
In August 2017, Anne joined the West Midlands Combined Authority as Director of Network Resilience, developing strategies to ensure the robustness and reliability of the region's transportation network. Her expertise in planning helped the region navigate challenges related to growth and sustainability.
Anne's career continued to ascend at Transport for West Midlands, initially as Managing Director in July 2021 and then as Executive Director in January 2022. She leads initiatives to transform the region's transport infrastructure, focusing on integrating technology and innovation, enhancing mobility, and improving quality of life.
Anne is also involved in advisory and board positions. In June 2024, she was elected as a board member of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT), contributing to industry standards. She also serves as an Advisory Council Member for the Zemo Partnership, highlighting her commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.
