Roadworker crew abused after drunk driver moves barriers to gain access to worksite.
A traffic management crew suffered verbal abuse after a vehicle drove into a worksite leading to a confrontation last night (10th July).
The incident happened on a worksite taking place on the Stein over bridge over the A27 just after 12pm.
Prior to the recording, occupants of the vehicle, believed to be a Toyota Hill, registration SK71 BYY had removed two sets of the barriers, on both occasions with the passenger exiting the vehicle to remove barriers.
Recognising that the occupants of the vehicle were under the influence, the traffic management operatives, correctly removed themselves from danger and radioed ahead further down the site and activated the Intellecone system alerting all operatives of an incursion.
As the vehicle travelled down the site it encountered a third set of barriers, out of earshot of the Intellecone at which point the vehicle came to a stop in the centre of the road with the passenger then leaving the vehicle, throwing barriers and becoming abusive to the operatives in the road.
At this point, a Traffic Management Supervisor for National Highways activated his body worn camera and captured the footage below.
Out of shot the driver of the vehicle nudges his vehicle towards the operatives to move as they form a cordon across the road to protect those in the worksite.
At the same time the passenger exits the vehicle and physically pushes the operative asking him the question
"Do you know who I am .... sausage boy (an insult referring to a male penis). When realising they are being filmed the two reverse along the closure back where they came from.
Distressingly, despite being called, local police failed to attend the scene.
